The Public Paddle series is back for 2023!

As we continue to wait for the construction to finish on the NBCB  boathouse, this community event will take place at Manhattan Avenue Street End Park, just one block away in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

The Public Paddles let NBCB do what we do best: fulfill our mission to enable access to the waterways of New York City for our local community.

We'll have canoe tours with views of Manhattan, tasty beverages and snacks on hand, and friends and neighbors gathering together on the shores of Newtown Creek.

The event runs 12-4.  We invite you to join your neighbors in one of our 29' Langley canoes and to spend some time on land, meeting your neighbors and participating in the Community Reflection Station.

We ask that all attendees be vaccinated against COVID-19. Please stay home if you are feeling ill. If you are worried you are sick and need help, please see NYC's COVID Resources Guide here.

If you're interested in volunteering to help out and learn more about NBCB, please use the "Register" button.

At these free, informal paddles, North Brooklyn Community Boathouse welcomes walk-up participants to join trained NBCB guides for short trips on Newtown Creek and often out toward the East River, where we often pause to take in the view of Manhattan. Usually we take our fleet of 29′ canoes. Everyone on the paddle works together under expert instruction to forge a unique NYC experience, seeing the city in a new way.

Public paddles are free and open to everyone. We especially hope to welcome our Greenpoint neighbors and members of other community organizations. Come down to MASE Park, and learn more about Greenpoint’s history, environmental challenges and successes, and residents.

All our voyages are led by certified trip leaders and include some of the best views of the city. This is a great way to check out the boatyard and get a chance to explore the local waterways. Paddling is free! And we serve beverages and other snacks. Our public paddles are child and pet friendly.

Please come join us at YOUR community boathouse!

NBCB sincerely thanks the Greenpoint Community Environment Fund and the Office of the New York State Attorney General and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for financial support for our Public Paddle series.
