Introduction to Navigationfor Kayaks and Canoes
Whether you're a new member, a trip assistant or looking to refresh your knowledge join us at the Queens Landing Center.
Nautical charts contain a wealth of information that's useful - and often critical - to paddlers. Charts are particularly valuable for gaining local knowledge when visiting new waterways for the first time.
After learning the basics of how to read a chart, we'll plan a trip using sample charts in areas across the US. We'll then learn how to use a compass to fix your location. Lastly we'll look at some modern GPS devices, and discuss the pros and cons of using GPS on the water.
Bring food and drink if you like.
