Even though this session is useful to anyone working on their skill sets, it will be especially relevant to Intermediate Members who found it exceedingly difficult to re-enter their kayak after a wet exit or capsize - and to Trip Assistants who will learn how to manage and alleviate such perceived and actual difficulties during a rescue.
Tomorrow's weather and water quality look perfect - and a spot or two are still available; Registration closed but late joiners will be considered...
We will practice scoop rescue i.e. how to re-enter a partially submerged kayak with least physical effort possible for BOTH the rescuer and the rescued. Let's practice this technique not just for injured paddlers, but to the benefit of everyone who finds themselves unable to climb back into a kayak after a capsize. Learn to take the lead as well as to assist. We will then also look at various ways to make a capsized paddler's way back into a dry cockpit safer, quicker, easier and less worrisome.
Dress to get wet, and remember to bring water and a snack. Please no jeans or other heavy cotton clothing.
