Sky & Water : an Art Practice Workshop.Part of the Art & Science Series.

Art is 90% practice and 10% technique. In this class, you’ll learn how to build a regular art practice for 2025, focusing on fast to do thumbnail sketches. Choose a rhythm that works for you—daily, weekly, or monthly—and create a space to explore, experiment, and even make a few mistakes along the way.

Like the masters, who sketched countless ideas in pencil and watercolor before tackling their masterpieces, you’ll develop your own approach through small, intentional pieces. Inspired by the the East River and Newtown Creek, we’ll use the sky and water for our example.

For our guided example you’ll work on a guided 2 x 2 grid—one sketch a week for a month—using pencil, markers, ink, watercolors, or the medium of your choice.

Beginners and all levels are welcome. Art supplies will be provided, but please bring your own if you prefer.

After a 10 minute slideshow we'll have the remaining time to focus on art.

While the event is primarily aimed at adults, those aged 12 and above are welcome with adult supervision.

You are welcome to bring food and drink for yourself or to share.
