Step into the fascinating world of the unseen! In this interactive workshop, you'll get hands-on experience with microscopes and uncover the incredible details of nature that are invisible to the naked eye.
We'll begin with a brief introduction to the history and science of microscopy before diving right in. You'll examine seeds harvested from the Kingsland Wildflower Green Roof by the Newtown Creek Alliance, as well as winter plankton collected straight from Newtown Creek.
Not only will you learn how microscopes work and how to use them effectively, but you'll also sharpen your observational skills through scientific illustration. Guided by scientific illustrator Monica, you'll explore techniques for sketching what you see under the lens—an excellent way to deepen your understanding of microscopic life.
By the end of the session, you'll have a solid grasp of microscopy techniques, a newfound appreciation for the tiny wonders around us, and your own hand-drawn scientific illustrations to take home.
Join us for this immersive, eye-opening experience—no prior experience required!
The event is open to members and guests. Numbers are limited so please register.
Feel free to bring snacks and something to drink.
