VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Kayak Public Paddle

Registration

Shift 1 (10:30am-1:30pm): Deck Hands/Launch People in Boats
Should (but not mandatory) have some experience paddling with NBCB. Beginners are welcome. Your feet will get wet. This requires some moderate lifting of boats.
Shift 1 (10:30am-1:30pm): Dock Manager
For Intermediate Members
Shift 1 (10:30am-1:30pm): Fit Paddlers with Life Vests
No experience needed. Will provide demo.
Shift 1 (10:30am-1:30pm): Floater-store runs, lunch set up, help others when busy
No experience needed.
Shift 1 (10:30am-1:30pm): Give participants paddling tutorial (TL or TA)
Shift 1 (10:30am-1:30pm): Land Manager
For Intermediate Members
Shift 1 (10:30am-1:30pm): Registration Table
No experience needed.
Shift 1 (10:30am-1:30pm): Trip Assistant (Officially Assessed)
Shift 1 (10:30am-1:30pm): Trip Leader (Certification Required)
Shift 2 (1:00pm-4:30pm): Deck Hands/Putting People in boats

Hello NBCB friends!

North Brooklyn Community Boathouse is offering free kayaking to the public at Queens Landing Boathouse in Long Island City, Queens.

Our Public Paddle Series lets us fulfill our mission: enabling safe, responsible, human-powered boating, and educating residents to be stewards of the history, ecology and sustainability of the waterways of Newtown Creek and the adjacent East River.

We are looking for Volunteers to help with:

Registration and getting waivers signed
Fitting paddlers with life vests
Deckhands getting people into boats (moderate lifting required and you will get wet) (some experience with NBCB required, but we'll train you)
Floaters to do store runs, set up lunch, help others when busy
NBCB Trip Assistants and Trip Leaders

There will be two volunteer shifts (with an overlap for training).

Shift 1: 10:30am - 1:30pm (includes set up)

Shift 2: 1:00pm - 4:30pm (includes clean up)

The event is open to the public 12pm-4pm.

Food will be provided at 1:30pm for lunch.

Please note: The back up day for inclement weather or if there is too much wind is Sunday July 13. It would be helpful if you are available both dates.
