ART & SCIENCE:  Beneficial Garden Insects and Paper crafting an Insect

Join us for a fun and engaging exploration of garden creepy crawlies and relax .  Let your creativity flow designing your own imaginary insect.

Insects are everywhere—1.4 million for every person on Earth—yet many remain misunderstood. Are wasps pests or essential helpers? How do bees sustain our food supply? And are ladybugs truly nature's best pesticide? We discuss a few non-insects, such as spiders, earthworms, and nematodes.

Then relax as you design your own imaginary insect, crafting it from various decorative papers and antique book pages. Once complete, showcase your unique specimen with a custom scientific name tag.

Guided by scientific illustrator Monica Schroeder, you'll learn watercolor techniques while celebrating nature and creativity. Don't miss this chance to connect with art and the natural world—come create with us!

Beginners and all levels are welcome. Art supplies will be provided, but please bring your own if you prefer.

After a 10 minute slideshow we'll have the remaining time to create art.

Materials provided include:

  • paper, scissors,
  • collage materials
  • glue

While the event is primarily aimed at adults, those aged 14 and above are welcome with adult supervision.
