North Brooklyn Community Boathouse, Free Public Paddle, June 21, 2025 1-4pm.

The Community Canoeing Public Paddle series
is back for 2025!

OurPublic Paddle Series let us fulfill our mission: enabling safe, responsible, access to our waterways, and educating residents to be stewards of the history, ecology and sustainability of the waterways of Newtown Creek and the adjacent East River.

At these Free, informal paddles, NBCB welcomes walk-up participants to join trained NBCB canoe guides for short trips on Newtown creek in our 29 foot voyageur canoes. We’ll paddle out toward the East River and take in views of Manhattan before paddling deeper into the creek, a very rewarding experience!

We are looking for volunteers to help with the paddle!

We welcome folks to sign up for volunteer shifts including:

  • Launching the big boats

  • Trip leaders and “Big boat sterners” for Paddling the big boats

  • Setting up, laying out snacks and other accoutrements (sanitizer, sunscreen etc.)

  • Getting  members of the public fitted with paddles, live vests, and ready for paddling

  • Getting folks registered and collecting signed waivers

  • General help during the event.

  • Hanging out and enjoying our wonderful community!

If you are interested, please register and select the shift that works best for you so we can plan accordingly! Sign up for as many trips as you want, your participation is very welcome!  If you're seeing this via email, you can sign up through our calendar.
