Kayak Beginner Skills & Drills

This trip is for beginner paddlers who are interested in advancing to intermediate, and need to practice skills before their evaluation. You should have experience paddling in a decked boat from our club and feel confident in your forward stroke.

At the boathouse, we'll give ourselves plenty of time at the start of the trip to guide you through selecting the right boat and give you time to collect the gear you need. We'll practice techniques for getting in and out of the boat by yourself, as well.

Out on the water, we'll paddle west to Bushwick Inlet and practice intermediate paddle strokes, skills and anything else you're interested in learning. If you already own a dry bag, this will be a great chance to use it! Either way, bring a change of clothes in case you get wet.

Join us after clean up for a bodega run and hang at the park– it's a Friday, after all!

Forecast shows sunny with a high of 89°. We'll keep an eye on weather conditions as the date draws closer, but plan on acquiring some kind of sun protective layers, bring sunscreen, lots of water and snacks.
