Kayak: Intermediate Skills: To Hell... Gate and Back Again
The trip is full.
Paddle through the notorious waters of Hell Gate—and live to tell the tale. First named Hellegat (“Bright Passage”) by Dutch explorer Adriaen Block in 1614, the name endures. Even today, the light dancing on the water remains beautiful.
We’ll paddle quickly up the Queens side to catch slack at Hell Gate Bridge. Then we return in the West channel with views of the Manhattan skyline.
Dress to get wet, bring water, a snack, etc. NO jeans or other heavy cotton clothing. Bring dry clothes in case you get wet.
