Nature Journaling From the Microscope: Insects and Microfauna
Space is Limited
In this adult art class discover the hidden beauty of the natural world with Hunters Point Park Conservancy’s macro- and microscopes. Each session begins with a peek into the fascinating history of the microscope, plus a hands-on introduction to using them. Then, enjoy 90 minutes of creative exploration as you capture your observations in a nature journal using colored pencils, watercolors, and ink.
Guided by scientific illustrator and watercolorist Monica Schroeder, this adult art class blends science and creativity. Along the way, we’ll explore color theory, light and shadow, and how to communicate scientific information through illustration.
Every session highlights a different theme from the rich biodiversity of Hunters Point Park:
Insects & Microfauna – insects, water bears, and more
Marine Life – zooplankton, snails, shells, and aquatic wonders
Botanical Treasures – seeds, pollen, and plant structures
Beginners and all levels are welcome. Art supplies will be provided, but please bring your own if you prefer.
